If you’re using landing pages for your business then we’ve got good news: you’re on the right path. Landing pages should be used by any business because it directs your audience towards a specific action. 

However, a lot of landing pages we come across here at The Good Marketer could be improved with just the smallest of adjustments. Landing pages are being used more than websites in some businesses nowadays because of how high conversion rates can be and how easy they are to set up.

A landing page is a single web page known as a lead capture page, static page, or destination page.

A landing page will typically be used for one specific action such as collecting customer information or showcasing a new product.

Do I really need a landing page?

Yes. You should always be looking to increase conversions and make your customers experience smoother and simpler.

What are the ways in which you can improve your landing page?

  • Include a Call To Action (CTA)

  • Put your CTA above the fold

  • Make your CTA stand out

  • Use bullet points

  • Include more white space

  • Insert a catchy headline

What is the most important part of a landing page?

To put simply, a call-to-action. If you haven’t heard of a call-to-action, they are exactly what they say on the tin! A CTA is a button that prompts people visiting your page to act, whether it be by signing up or purchasing your product/service.

CTA’s are important because it tells the person viewing your page what the next step is. How are people supposed to know what to do next when you haven’t told them?

Add a Call To Action

The best CTA is the one that stands out and is clear in what you want the person to do. Make the colour of the button of your CTA stand out from the page by using a colour that completely contrasts the main colour of the page.

You also want to put it above the fold which is the section that people will see before they start scrolling.

If you’re CTA is below the fold then the majority of people will not see it as the majority of people won’t scroll below the fold.

Lastly, make sure you can include your CTA more than once if you have more than one page. You want to catch people in the split-second they make the decision and this could be further down the page so make sure you include them where necessary.

Use an Interesting/Catchy Headline

Did you know that only 8 out of 10 people read the headline?

Now, do you focus purely on the headline and forget about the content/body copy? No, but you do want to put some extra time into thinking how you can catch people’s attention so they do read your article.

People love numbers in a headline, for example, “5 Things You Need To Do…”, or articles that include the well-known 5 w’s, “who, what where, when and why”.

Be careful with these headline examples as a lot of people are catching on and it’s rare to find a headline that doesn’t have one of the 5 w’s or a top 10 this or top 5 that.

Often, it’s better to put exactly what it is you’re selling/giving away in the headline. For example, “FREE eBook For Facebook Marketers”. That is specific and stops people interacting with your landing page who aren’t really your target audience.

Include more white space

This is subjective to your personal requirements or branding, but white space will help make your landing page more clearer, certain sections pop out and look a little bit cleaner. White space on your landing page will also:

  • Clearer comprehension of your offer

  • Improves readability

  • Enhanced user experience

  • Improved focus

By just adding a bit more white colour to your background, you can completely transform your landing page so make sure to include where you think it will benefit your page the most.
