One of the most asked questions we get as a digital marketing agency is from small business owners who ask:
"How do I advertise my business locally?"
We forget that a large bulk of small businesses are local businesses that are usually family-owned or run by a handful of people.
There has never been a better time to advertise your business locally and get a great return on your ad spend with the rise of advertising channels such as Facebook, Instagram and Google that provide access to billions of people.
In this blog post, we're going to show you how you can advertise your business locally and take advantage of the new marketing channels out there.

Facebook has over 2 billion people using its platform and you will more than likely be able to reach out to those customers who want your product/service.
And even better than how many people using Facebook is how specific their targeting feature is when setting up ads in the ads platform.
To set up Facebook ads that target locals, you need to:
Log in to ads manager
Click the green "create" button
Choose your campaign objective and name it
Then you will go through to the ad set level which will look like:
When you get to this section, you will have the option to select your location targeting.
You have the option to target a specific location which if you are a local business, you should type in the area your business is situated.
The radius should be kept small and the lowest the radius option will go is 17km and the highest is 80km.
Using Google Ads To Target Your Business
Google ads can often work better than Facebook ads for local business owners as the search intent is often higher.
For example, someone searching for the phrase in Google, "gyms in Richmond", are going to be more close to buying mode than someone who is being targeted on Facebook who just lives in the area.
Log in to your Google ads account and click on the locations tab like below:
You can then bulk include or exclude locations and customise a radius for each location(s).
Hopefully, you have found the information above useful and actionable which is always our intent when writing these sort of articles.
