Lockdown Habits We're Scared To Lose

As we emerge from what is hopefully the final strand of lockdown in the UK, we are all somewhere between being bright-eyed and bushy-tailed but also having aged about ten additional years.

Although we know that this has been a turbulent time for many, with a lot of uncertainty, unexpected circumstances and profound challenges, during lockdown here at The Good Marketer team, we’ve been lucky enough that our team has expanded, working from home and keeping safe.

We’ve developed some habits that we’re actually quite fond of during this time and are reflecting on these as lockdown eases, and returning to the office looks like a possibility in the near future.

Here are the lockdown habits that we’re scared to lose.

A Morning Routine

In the absence of the commute into our East London office, we’ve been able to carve out a new morning routine.

For some of us, it’s an extra hour or two in bed. For others, it’s yoga, a run or cooking up that dreamy breakfast that we always wanted but never had the time to make.

Morning routines that were previously exclusive to the youtube channels of Vogue cover stars – slow starts and endless cups of coffee – have definitely become a part of our lives during lockdown, and we won’t be willing to give them up any time soon.

Daily Walks

Remember the days when your daily walks were the highlight of your life?

Lockdowns one to three saw many of our employees into a love affair with nature. One that we reckon will last a lifetime.

For our London-based employees, it’s strolling through the empty city. For our countryside residents, picture rolling hills and trees in bloom. And, although empty cities are a thing of the past now the Rule Of Six is back in play, we’re still in favour of a daily walk to get us up and away from our WFH spaces.

WFH Attire

Speaking of WFH, one thing we’ll miss is the dress code.

Comfort takes precedence over all else – except for when you’re in a “cameras on please” meeting and your top half needs to be all business…

By the way, we know you’re sporting loungewear from the waist down.

Staying In

And speaking of loungewear, even though we’ve essentially spent the last twelve months at home, in our pj’s, our team is torn when it comes to the lockdown habit of staying in.

There are those of us who have secretly (or not so secretly) loved spending weekend after weekend in bed by nine pm and binging Desperate Housewives. And, there are those of us who have been sat twiddling our thumbs waiting patiently (or not so patiently) to get back into the pub.

Which side are you on?

Trying New Things

The fifth and final lockdown habit that we are scared to lose is something our entire team can agree upon – trying new things.

Be it cooking, upcycling, actual cycling, learning a new language or picking up a paintbrush, we’ve loved having the opportunity to pick up new hobbies in the absence of our typical social lives. And in the face of something so uncertain, this has definitely kept us on the straight and narrow!

Don’t get us wrong, we can’t wait to get back into the swing of ‘normal life’ but whether it’s making time for breakfast or our newfound hobbies, we’ll certainly be taking some of our lockdown habits into the days ahead.
